How to Reduce Gas Permeation in PTFE Hoses-BESTEFLON

Permeation of PTFE tube

In some cases, penetration through the fluoropolymers may lead to problems with the lining piping system.

Now, BESTEFLON Company Teflon Pipe Professional will answer this technical question for you.

The permeability of ptfe pipe will cause corrosion of the wire protective layer, shorten the life of the pipe, high maintenance cost, pollution and threat to the health of the staff. Overall, in general, it increases the total cost of ownership!

PTFE molecules are long chains of carbon atoms surrounded by fluorine atoms. Each carbon atom has two fluorine atoms connected to it. Given the strong polarity and each carbon in the chain has two fluorine atoms attached to it, this makes PTFE a tough carbon backbone surrounded by a fluorinated protector, making it almost completely resistant to chemical erosion.

PTFE consists of noncrystallographic and crystalline structures, which are more compact in comparison. The tighter the structure, the less permeable they are to the gas. The crystal structure of the PTFE can be modified to improve its permeability.

In many cases, a lining device may be used for 20 years or longer without any signs of penetration. However, in some cases, osmoation becomes apparent within weeks or months after a piece of device is operational. After study, we found that the following use conditions have a significant impact on the penetration rate:

physicochemical property

1. Physically very small molecules, such as helium, water, or carbon dioxide, can be infiltrated by PTFE. This is because these molecules are small enough to allow them to pass through the structure of the polymer in the gap between individual polymer molecules.

2.Atoms chemically similar to fluorine, such as chlorine and bromine, can penetrate into the structures of PTFE and PTFE.

Temperature

As the temperature increases, the penetration rate through the PTFE wall increases in a nonlinear manner. This is caused by the following factors:

1. The gas will become more soluble in the polymer as the temperature increases

2. Increased exchange of individual atoms between the polymer chains,

3. The polymer volume increases, resulting in more space between individual polymer chains.

Pressure

The osmotic rate increases in a linear fashion with an increase in the gas pressure.

Tube wall thickness

The wall thickness of the hose also helps to slow down the penetration rate. If tested with two polymer layers prepared from the same material, the penetration rate through the thicker layer will be lower than that through the thinner layer. As the thickness increases, the penetration rate tends to stabilize, rather than continue to decrease.

Amplitude of vibration

The amplitude of the vibration produced by the hose during work has a great effect on the damage of the hose. Appropriate remedial measures are required. For example, use more flexible hoses, and use rubber buffer sleeves to reduce the damage caused by vibration.

The quality of the PTFE powder

There are a variety of different brands and different models of raw materials on the market, and the quality is uneven. Different powder raw materials can affect the effect of sintering out.

How to reduce the permeability of the PTFE hose?

One way to reduce the PTFE penetration rate is to increase the crystallinity of the polymer, or% of the polymer with a crystalline structure. Since PTFE cannot be processed in melt, special processing technology is used to make raw materials into available articles. The main technique for processing PTFE is compression molding. Compression molding is setting the polymer structure by squeezing the PFE powder into a shape and then baking at high temperature. The ids in PTFE hoses can be controlled and reduced by making the hose through slow sintering or even post-sintering processes, which help to make PTFE molecules more crystalline. This processing technique may leave small gaps in the material, allowing the process fluid to migrate through it. Besteflon Has been widely used in its PTFE sleeve processor for manufacturing process and quality control. In the process, we will obtain the highest level of osmotic resistance.
