The production process of PTFE mainly includes the following 4 major steps:
1. monomer synthesis
PTFE is a polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) monomer polymerization of polymer compounds. monomer synthesis of TFE is the first step in the production process of PTFE. At present, the industry mainly uses electrolytic fluorination method to prepare TFE monomer, i.e., anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and ethylene under certain conditions for electrolysis reaction to generate TFE monomer.
2.Polymerization reaction
TFE monomer at a certain temperature and pressure, add catalyst and solvent, polymerization reaction. During the polymerization reaction, TFE monomer is continuously polymerized to form high molecular weight PTFE, the temperature, pressure, catalyst type and concentration of the polymerization reaction and other factors will affect the molecular weight, structure and properties of PTFE.
3.Post-treatment
After the polymerization reaction is completed, post-treatment is needed to get pure PTFE products. Post-treatment mainly includes washing, drying, crushing, sieving and other steps to remove catalysts, solvents and other impurities to get pure PTFE resin particles.
4.Molding process
PTFE resin particles are molded under certain conditions to obtain the required PTFE products. Molding methods include extrusion, injection molding, calendering and so on, according to the different requirements of the products to choose the appropriate molding method. Molding process temperature, pressure, processing speed and other factors will affect the performance and quality of PTFE products.
