Short Description:

PTFE TUBING has high chemical resistance, low temperature resistance, high temperature resistance, weathering resistance, low friction, insulation, heat insulation and other properties. These chemical resistant tubes have lower mechanical properties than other plastics, but they are usually reinforced by the addition of fillers such as fiberglass or carbon. When filled, the PTFE tube maintains its excellent chemical and temperature resistance, while the filler improves the mechanical strength, stability and wear resistance. Due to its inactive nature, it is often used for active and corrosive chemicals in containers and pipelines.

Since engineering grade materials require high continuous temperatures for 3D printers, component requirements are high. Therefore, the 3D printer uses PTFE tube as the feeding tube (feeder tube). PTFE tubes are widely used in the 3D printer industry, mainly because of the following performance:

Non-stickiness: PTFE is inert, almost all substances are not bonded with PTFE tube, and very thin films also show non-stick properties.

Heat and cold resistance: PTFE tube has excellent heat and low temperature resistance. It can withstand temperature up to 300℃ in a short time, and the melting point is 327℃. It will not melt at 380℃. Generally, it can be used continuously between 240℃ and 260℃. It has remarkable thermal stability. It can work at freezing temperature. No embrittlement, cold resistance to 65℃.

3. Lubricity: PTFE tube has a low coefficient of friction. The friction coefficient changes when the load is sliding, but the value is only between 0.04-0.15.

4. Non-hygroscopicity: The surface of PTFE tube does not stick to water and oil, and it is not easy to stick to the solution during production operations. If there is a small amount of dirt, it can be removed by simply wiping. Short downtime, saving working hours and improving work efficiency.

5. Corrosion resistance: PTFE tube is hardly corroded by chemicals, and can withstand all strong acids (including aqua regia), strong alkalis, and strong acids except molten alkali metals, fluorinated media, and sodium hydroxide above 300°C. The role of oxidants, reducing agents and various organic solvents can protect parts from any kind of chemical corrosion.

6. Weather resistance: no aging, better non-aging life in plastics.

7. non-toxic: in a normal environment within 300 ℃, physiologically inert, non-toxic can be used for medical and food equipment.

8. Insulation: Very good dielectric constant and high insulation.

9. The friction coefficient is small, and the fluidity of the raw materials is good.

Due to the excellent performance of PTFE hose, it is not only suitable for 3D printer industry, but also widely used in pipeline anticorrosion, high temperature, low temperature and corrosion resistance. And used in harsh environments such as lubrication, electronics, electrical appliances, aerospace and medical treatment.

  • Question:Can it be used as a gasoline pipe?

    Answer: Yes, high temperature rating.

     

    Question: Can this be used for drinking?

    Answer: Food grade PTFE tube is OK, but as a personal use, the cost is more expensive, relative to the general plastic straw will be harder.

      

    Question: Can this be separated vertically?

    Answer: I think you can. You may want to make a fixture so that the cracks are evenly distributed along the length (easier to do when passing through the tube) and use a fairly sharp blade (xacto or similar hobby razor blades will work). As for why, that will be a question only you can answer.
